The Journey

Imagine living to be 100 years old.

Now imagine being 100 years old and healthy enough to travel the world, continue to work and enjoy an afternoon of water skiing. Sounds unbelievable, right? Well, the truth is that this is not only possible, it's happening today in America and in places like Loma Linda, California. There, the Seventh Day Adventist population is living 10 years longer than the average American. And worldwide, the populations of Sardinia and Okinawa can make a similar claim.

Scientists have been observing centenarians in specific areas of the world called Blue Zones and have noticed that all of these populations share common lifestyles and values. Of course genetics comes into play, but in these areas, people are going above and beyond to prolong their lives. They stay active all the way into old age and enjoy life to the fullest. They keep family and friends close and eat a balanced diet of fruits, vegetables and whole grains. And by doing these things, they're not only extending their lives, they're also improving their health.

Based in this unique insight, Florida Hospital has a mission to change the way you look at healthcare - to help you see us as a place that creates health instead of one that merely treats illness. Given today's healthcare environment, where the cost of illness is soaring in terms of dollars and heartache, now more than ever we wanted to share our ideas with you and jump-start a movement toward rapid life extension throughout Central Florida that includes people of all cultural and religious backgrounds.

Simply put, the goal of this movement is to help people live to a healthy 100 years old.

Healthy100.org is just a small part of this movement. This site will provide you with the tools to determine your life expectancy, evaluate your health, and make goals to improve yourself. You'll get support from other users who want to make a change in themselves. You'll find healthy recipes, educational blogs and opportunities to ask professionals any questions you may have on your journey to a healthy 100 years old. We're even encouraging you to make a life goals list of things you have always dreamed of accomplishing and actually complete these goals.

So join us on our mission. We can't wait to see you blow out 100 birthday candles and follow it up by playing backyard football with your great-great grandkids. And live to see the days you never thought you would. So take the life-expectancy calculator and tell us: what do you want to do when you're 100?
